About Seaglass

Seaglass is glass that comes from old bottles, tableware and the like that has been in the sea. The constant action of tides twice a day mean the glass is “churned” until it becomes smooth, this takes at least 20 to 40 years can take up to 100 years, because each piece is unique nobody really knows. Most of our seaglass is found on Gower and South Wales beaches. The tidal range in the Bristol Channel is the second largest in the world this provides perfect conditions for the action of the sea, stones and sand for seaglass to acquire its charismatic character and shape.

The glass originates mainly from bottles discarded and from shipwrecks these bottles contained beer, medicines, soft drinks (coke), wine, gin, whiskey, etc etc. Dangerous liquids including poisons were in cobalt blue bottles many having serrated sides on the bottles as a warning to the blind, these are quite rare to find.
